CUR is able to fulfill its mission because of our volunteers! Are you passionate about undergraduate research? Would you like to get more involved? If so, here are some volunteer opportunities we have available (please note that some positions are time-sensitive):
CUR Collaboration Groups
Members of CUR Collaboration Groups serve as contributors to governance, strategic insight, advisory work, or programmatic initiatives that advance CUR’s mission and strategic priorities. Collaboration Group members bring expertise, experience, and community perspective to support the goals of CUR initiatives. These groups may include Committees, Advisory Groups, and Working Groups, each designed to support CUR’s work in different ways depending on scope, duration, and purpose. Opportunities to join these committees and groups open throughout the year and you can check back here for them.
Selection Committee for the CUR–Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Award
This award recognizes outstanding faculty mentors whose guidance and support have had a significant impact on Goldwater Scholars and Goldwater Scholar applicants. Committee members play a key role in reviewing nominations and selecting award recipients who exemplify excellence in undergraduate research mentoring in fields aligned with the Goldwater Scholarship.
We are seeking committee members who represent disciplines eligible for the Goldwater Scholarship, including the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Committee service typically involves review periods in December and February, with additional virtual discussions as needed. While we are interested in identifying individuals who have had some experience with the Goldwater program, experience with the program is not a requirement.
If you are interested in being considered, please access the application form here>>
The form includes questions about your mentoring experience with Goldwater Scholars and applicants (this is not a requirement for selection), as well as short narrative responses regarding your interest in serving and the perspectives you would bring to the committee. Applicants will also be asked to upload a CV highlighting undergraduate research–related outcomes. Applications are due July 15.
Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research (SPUR)
- Want to Review Manuscripts for SPUR? The success of CUR’s academic journal Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research (SPUR) lies in the many dedicated individuals who serve in various roles for the journal. Especially crucial are those who review manuscripts for the journal. If you are interested in serving as a SPUR reviewer, please email SPUR@cur.org and indicate areas of expertise (e.g., assessment). Of special interest are those with experience in qualitative/quantitative methods.
- Interested in Reviewing Books for SPUR? Please contact spur@technicaeditorial.com and indicate areas of interest for book reviewing.
CUR Conversations
- CUR Conversations are informal, intimate discussions based on hot topics that our members have requested. We are always looking for volunteer facilitators to contribute their time for a one-hour chat on a topic that they feel is close to their wheel-house. If interested in facilitating a conversation, please email Elizabeth Moris with topic(s) you would feel comfortable presenting.
Undergraduate Research Highlights
- Spotlight a Student or your Institution: Send in your research stories that highlight student projects and presentations, curricula changes that integrate undergraduate research, innovations in institutional culture that support undergraduate research, and other related pieces regarding undergraduate research. Let us celebrate you. Email Elizabeth Moris with your stories.
Social Media
- Share, Like, Comment, Follow: CUR can be found on many social media platforms–LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, and Twitter/X. Although a small task of sharing, commenting on a post, or following one or all accounts doesn’t seem like a huge lift, the added presence of our social media profiles allows CUR to grow the awareness of our mission and vision beyond our existing undergraduate research community.
Elected Leadership
- CUR is looking for volunteers who are committed to advancing the strategic plan and goals set forth and representative of all institution types. CUR Members and non-members were encouraged to apply for open positions during the nomination period in October through January. More information is available on the Nominations and Elections page.
